Wrec

[ Hospital Records ] - UK
At 28 years of age Jon Bailey aka MC Wrec is regarded as one of Britain’s most exciting young artists and music entrepreneurs. Known as one of the hardest workers on the circuit, this versatile young grafter has shot to fame in recent years after becoming the front man to the award winning live act London Elektricity.

The Surrey born vocalist who spent time growing up in Berlin, London, Southampton, Brighton and stateside in New England, discovered his love for music at a very young age. Listing Michel Jackson, James Brown, Van Morrison, Jay Z, Finley Quay, Sizzla, LSK and Roots Manuva as influences, he first graced the mic in 1995 at a warehouse party in South Croydon and came up through the traditional ranks of London’s sound-system and pirate radio culture. He earnt his stripes chatting over early breakbeats, jungle, house, garage, hip hop and reggae music, before relocating to Southampton in 1998, where he gained a marketing degree, promoted shows, founded the Distortion Crew and his former hip hop group The Pickpockets and became Addict Clothing's Worldwide Music PR manager.

It was during this time, Wrec began cutting his teeth working and touring with the likes of First Rate, Ray Keith, DJ Red and Rodney P, spreading his wings both nationally and internationally on the mic. From 2003 - Dec 2005 (when the band stopped touring), Wrec fronted the mighty London Elektricity live band, recording two live LP's and DVD's, featuring on the 2005 studio album, rocking shows from Auckland to Istanbul and picking up BBC 1Xtra and Knowledge Magazine awards with the band for 'Best live Act'.

Now Brighton based, Wrec is resident MC to prestigious records labels including Hospital Records, Critical, Custom, Soundtrax and W10 Recordings, plus infamous nights including Fabric Live, Heaven, Hospitality and Friends & Family in London, The Watergate in Berlin plus further residencies in Cardiff, Brighton and Bristol. Now a regular live host and collaborator to acclaimed eclectic acts The Nextmen and The Stanton Warriors, he's toured across Europe, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Brazil, Japan and China - working and touring with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice T, The Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Afrika Bambaataa, Timo Maas, Soul II Soul, The Streets, DJ Zinc, Fabio and Kanye West's DJ A-Trak to name only a few.

Superb performances at the likes of Glastonbury, Good Vibrations (Australia), Homelands, Big Chill, BMF Brazil, Shepherds Bush Empire, Global Gathering, Radio 1 and The Jazz Cafe, have secured his place at one of the world's most versatile and entertaining MCs. Whether he's working with Dillinja or High Contrast, Timo Maas or Qool DJ Marv, he's sure to rock the show.

With releases on labels including Fat City, Hospital, Temhogen, Silent Soundz and Scenario plus countless mixtape appearances, he featured on last years London Elektricity's 'Power Ballads' LP, Martin Brews single 'Drop The Beat' and is currently lock down recording his debut solo material. He recently leaked his debut solo track 'The Great British Moan' across the web causing ruckus everywhere and over 22,000 listens on his myspace page, not to mention rotation on Radio 1, 1xtra and Kiss FM plus support and acclaim from the likes of Deekline & Wizard, DJ Zinc, Rodney P, Landslide, Skitz, Dynamite MC, Mr. Jam and more. Released on 7th May 2007 on his own ‘Mums The Words Records’ label.

In addition to the above, he also runs a couple of companies. Firstly Mums The Word Management looks after exciting new act The Part Time Heroes (who releases material Island, RCA, Tru Thoughts and Wah Wah 45 Records), established reggae influenced production duo The Nextmen (signed to Antidote/Sanctuary Records), north London based female singer/songwriters Zarif (signed to RCA/Columbia) and Bridgette Amofah, plus indie/rock/hip hop band Inner City Dwellers. Wrec is also the CEO of Guerrilla Tactics Entertainment, a creative agency which deals with all of Addict Clothing’s worldwide music press, product placement, endorsements, and regularly works with the likes of DJ Cash Money, Skitz, Fat Freddys Drop, James Zabiela, L.S.K, Rodney P and more. Indeed Jon was recently invited to host the 'Adicolor Collection' press conference for Adidas in Berlin, interviewing style, illustration and design icons including Cey Adams of Def Jam Records, Raymond Choy of Toy2R, Vice Magazine and Italian label Emilio Pucci. This lead to Wrec becoming the choice regular host for all Adidas and Crooked Tongues (the worlds largest online trainer/sneaker website) parties across the UK.

He's also been invited to lecture in Bulgaria, Germany and Slovenia and recently hosted the 'MTV Media Awards' after-party in London and the MTV party at The Cannes Film Festival 2006. And if you thought that was enough work for one man, 2006 also saw the launch of his new label (co-run with Marc Sheinman)... Mums The Word Records. The labels debut release in Oct 2006 was Part Time Heroes 'Realise EP', which gained global critical acclaim, support & radio play from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Zane Lowe, Ras Kwame, Patrick Forge, Mr. Scruff, Benji B, Unibombers, UFO and many more! His ‘GB Moan’ track was also released on the label in May 2007. Also catch Wrec hosting various radio shows on Kiss FM.

Known for his hustle and hard work, Wrec has been described by many as one to watch and has received considerable support from some of the industries major players. Difficult to pigeonhole, exciting to listen to, and with fingers in several tasty pies you cant knock his drive or take his eyes off the prize.
